Whippet History in Art

 

Below are a few historical works of art showing whippet type dogs, with people, for size reference.  Perhaps the name, "Whippet" was not coined until the 1800's, but certainly, as these art works attest, whippets, as a breed type, were in existence at least as far back as the 1400's, and perhaps, as alluded to in the Ashkelon Tell article, even before the birth of Christ.  Besides the fact that the type is so obviously the same as Whippets today, the critical thing to notice here is the height of these dogs.  They are all about knee high, just like modern Whippets.
